What's in the bag?.......

Barbecue Charcoal

Where your BBQ charcoal comes from and how it's made is important for flavour and sustainability.

Grab any old bag of BBQ charcoal and you could be getting more than you bargained for.

You know that charcoal briquettes contain binders to hold together charcoal dust and coal right?

Added to this are burning agents like sodium nitrate and waxes¹. Hot - yes, but cool? - No way.

Red Kite Carbon lumpwood charcoal is pure Pembrokeshire charcoal, nothing else.

How about that big brand or discount retailer lumpwood charcoal? Could be made from trees such as Marabu ( Cuba ) or Quebracho ( South America ),  Acacia ( Namibian bush clearance ), Mangrove! ( Vietnam, China ). With the exception of Mangrove wood ( come on, how is this sustainable? ), purchasing these charcoals will be supporting an economy in the southern hemisphere that's just trying to do its thing- but here's the thing...

the cost to the environment of shipping charcoal ( bulky and relatively light ) half way across the world?

We think it's a no brainer.

When planning your next

awesome cookout and want the best charcoal -

relax, we've got this!
